The BOSTON HERALD's GAYLE FEE reports that the BOSTON RED SOX and ENTERCOM Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON are about to reach a multi-year deal to keep the SOX on the station.
FEE says that the deal may be the result of CBS RADIO Sports WBZ-F (98.5 THE SPORTS HUB) pulling out of the bidding because of the uncertainty over CBS selling or spinning off its radio division. Previous reports in late 2015 indicated that the SOX and WEEI were close to a deal, but no announcement followed that report.
FEE adds that the deal, which will supplant the current contract that expires at the end of this season, would be for seven or eight years and would be for less per season than the previous 10-year, $200 million contract, likely closer to $15-16 million per year.
