CBS RADIO has issued a response to a BOSTON HERALD story last week that reported ENTERCOM Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON's pending renewal of its contract for BOSTON RED SOX baseball came in the wake of CBS Sports WBZ-F (98.5 THE SPORTS HUB) pulling out of the running "when the parent company decided it might be getting out of the radio business."
In the response, CBS says, "THE SPORTS HUB never made a formal offer to become the flagship station of the BOSTON RED SOX. CBS RADIO's exploratory conversations actually centered around WBZ-A as potentially the new home for the team. But after our exploratory and friendly conversations, both CBS RADIO and the RED SOX decided the business terms were not lining up for both sides to take the discussion further. In fact, our brief conversations were concluded before any news was announced about the future of CBS RADIO. CBS RADIO is and will continue to be the industry leader in Sports radio with more than 30 professional play-by-play partnerships nationwide. We have great respect for the RED SOX organization and wish them the best in the upcoming season.”
