The FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is seeking comment on methods of using the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) for earthquake-related emergency alerts, specifically potential methods of delivering earthquake early warning alerts to the entire public in less than three seconds.
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is part of IPAWS, and the request asks for comments on how long it takes EAS participants to receive and deliver CAP-formatted alerts and whether there are members of the public in earthquake-prone areas who cannot receive either broadcast or wireless alerts. Geo-targeting is also a subject for comment, the Commission said.
Comments will be due on MAY 9th with replies by JUNE 8th.
