COLONIAL MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT has given Sports WFAY-A (ESPN 1230)/FAYETTEVILLE, NC an FM translator simulcast via W223AF, but the sign-on is being plagued by interference the station believes is being caused by a pirate FM station on the adjacent frequency. COLONIAL says that someone playing a Regional Mexican format as "LA EQUIS" is being heard on 100.3 FM, one notch away from W223AF on 100.1, and the adjacent pirate is interfering with W223AF along Skibo Road in FAYETTEVILLE.
Chairman/CEO JEFF ANDRULONIS said, “I had heard that Pirate Radio was a big problem in NEW YORK CITY and MIAMI, but I never expected to hear pirates on the air here in FAYETTEVILLE.”
