BLUE CHAIR/COLUMBIA’s KENNY CHESNEY launched his “SPREAD THE LOVE” tour at AUBURN UNIVERSITY’s JORDAN HARE STADIUM this past SATURDAY night (4/23), with special guests MIRANDA LAMBERT, SAM HUNT and OLD DOMINION. All CHESNEY shows are mega-events unto themselves, so ALL ACCESS sought a first-person, bird’s eye view of the spectacle. iHEARTMEDIA Country WDXB/BIRMINGHAM PD TOM HANRAHAN shared his account of the tour, which is set to run through AUGUST.
"Any excuse I can get to go back home to AUBURN is always good for me, and for the CHESNEY show that was a no-brainer," said HANRAHAN. "The show in itself is just fantastic from start to finish. OLD DOMINION came out hot; SAM HUNT blew everybody away, as did MIRANDA, and then of course KENNY played for two solid hours. Halfway through his set, it dawned on me: you tend to forget KENNY has been around for a while and how many hits he has. Not a whole lot of talking, but he was just cranking out the hits. I mean, it just never stopped.
"And typical KENNY, total professionalism on all levels. The sound was incredible for a stadium of that size and for the first-ever concert there. The lighting was outstanding; everything was completely top-notch. I was really touched before the show, as KENNY got everybody together for a quick hello, and to say thanks for the support all these years. It was very warm and sincere; I really appreciated that.
"I also enjoyed how KENNY brought all the acts on with him. OLD DOMINION for 'Save It For A Rainy Day' since they wrote it for him. SAM HUNT on 'Come Over,' since he obviously wrote that. One of the more powerful moments of the night is when MIRANDA joined him on 'You And Tequila.' Also, good call on KENNY's part to do 'My Home’s In ALABAMA,' which always resonates with an ALABAMA crowd."
