MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO Triple A KCMP (THE CURRENT)/MINNEAPOLIS-ST.PAUL is inviting radio stations across the country to honor PRINCE on WEDNESDAY, MAY 4th, with a simulcast of his hit song, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
The song will be broadcast on stations from coast to coast at 5:07p CT, which marks “seven hours and 13 days" -- a lyric from the song -- since the musical icon’s passing. KEXP/SEATTLE, WXPN/PHILADELPHIA, WFUV/NEW YORK, KKXT/DALLAS, KUTX/AUSTIN, WYMS (RADIO MILWAUKEE), WREW/CINCINNATI, and MUSIC CHOICE's ADULT ALTERNATIVE channel are among the stations who have already signed on for the simulcast.
The feed will be available to public radio stations nationwide via CONTENT DEPOT. Any radio station in any format is encouraged to blanket the airwaves with the song.
“Since PRINCE’s passing on APRIL 21st, tributes have poured in from all over the world,” said CURRENT PD JIM MCGUINN. “We thought marking this moment over the airwaves with one of his most ubiquitous songs would be a wonderful way to honor his legacy. We hope that wherever PRINCE fans are, and whatever radio station they are listening to, they will take a minute to listen and remember his musical genius and artistry.”
