COMEDY CENTRAL's "COLBERT REPORT" opened the "STEPHEN COLBERT Museum and Gift Shop" in downtown TUSCUMBIA, AL on WEDNESDAY (10/4) as part of an upcoming plotline on the program; COLBERT chose the location because it's in COLBERT COUNTY, AL, which he believed was named after him.
Well, URBan RADIO BROADCASTING/FLORENCE, AL's Rock WVNA-FM, Country WLAY-FM, Top 40 WMSR-FM, Urban WMXV-FM, News/Talk WVNA-AM and Variety WLAY-AM all took part in the grand opening of the museum and encouraged listeners to visit. But this morning (10/6), the stations took part in the museum's "grand closing" by broadcasting live from the ceremony.
"We are saddened to report that the museum has closed due to lack of interest after only a few days in operation," URBan announced. "Rumors abound, however, that JOE SCARBOROUGH from FOX NEWS will be opening his own museum in town in a few weeks, so the cluster remains hopeful that downtown TUSCUMBIA will once again be the center of media attention!"
