Tejano Star Emilio Navaira Dead At 53

ALL ACCESS extends sympathies to friends and family of Tejano legend EMILIO NAVAIRA, who died MONDAY (5/16) in his NEW BRAUNFELS, TX home according to KTRK-TV (ABC 13)/HOUSTON. He was 53.

"According to the NEW BRAUNFELS Police Department, family members found him unconscious at home at about 8:20p last night," says the report. "Emergency crews began life saving measures and transported him to RESOLUTE HEALTH HOSPITAL where he was pronounced dead. Police say it appears EMILIO died of natural causes, which UNIVISION reports as a possible heart attack. An autopsy will be performed."

Sometimes referred to as the GARTH BROOKS of Tejano, NAVAIRA was known to fans simply as EMILIO. Along with SELENA, NAVAIRA is widely credited with introducing Tejano music into the mainstream in the 1990s. In 1995, he joined CAPITOL NASHVILLE and released “It’s Not The End Of The World,” a top 30 Country single from the “Life Is Good” album. Two more singles appeared on the Country charts: “Even If I Tried” and “Have I Told You Lately.” Among NAVAIRA’s five surviving children include DIEGO NAVAIRA, a member of WARNER MUSIC NASHVILLE’s recently-signed band, The LAST BANDOLEROS.
