The Country/Triple A/Americana hybrid "99.5 THE SOUTH" format that aired at CUMULUS Country WZRR (NASH ICON 99.5)/BIRMINGHAM over the weekend was a fake-out, and the station will apparently be flipping to Talk with programming partly coming from sister News-Talk WAPI-A and some hosts coming from a competitor.
Late MONDAY, the website and Twitter feed for WAPI-A began sporting a TALK 99.5 logo and a new lineup that moves midday regionally-syndicated MATT MURPHY to 6-10a, adds former NBC affiliate WVTM-TV (ALABAMA'S 13) news anchor and crosstown CRAWFORD News-Talk WYDE (SUPERSTATION 101) 9-11a host ANDREA LINDENBERG for 10-11a, moves WAPI 1-5p host RICHARD DIXON to 11a-2p, puts former WYDE host LELAND WHALEY in the 2-6p slot, and fills out the day with WESTWOOD ONE's MARK LEVIN, MICHAEL SAVAGE, JOHN BATCHELOR, and RED EYE RADIO.
WHALEY tweeted:
Talk 99.5 will be something Bham has never seen. Right team, right signal, right commitment, right time for it. pic.twitter.com/JYDsY0AG1P
