USF's Josh Appel Named STAA Jim Nantz Award Winner

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA senior JOSH APPEL has been named winner of SPORTSCASTERS TALENT AGENCY OF AMERICA's 8th annual JIM NANTZ AWARD as the nation’s most outstanding collegiate sports broadcaster. The award will be presented at the NATIONAL SPORTS MEDIA ASSOCIATION's annual awards banquet in SALISBURY, NC on JUNE 20th.
“The first thing two of our judges told me upon hearing JOSH was, 'wow -- he already sounds like a network sportscaster,'" said STAA CEO JON CHELESNIK.
Judges for this year’s awards included CHELESNIK; LEARFIELD VP/Broadcast Operations TOM BOMAN; former NANTZ AWARD winner and CARSON-NEWMAN UNIVERSITY announcer ADAM CAVALIER; ESPNU, SPORTS USA, FOX SPORTS, and NESN announcer and former NANTZ AWARD winner ALEX FAUST; LSU play-by-play voice CHRIS BLAIR; LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS radio voice BRIAN SIEMAN; GEORGIA TECH announcer BRANDON GAUDIN; and NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS radio play-by-play announcer BOB SOCCI.
