In FEBRUARY (NET NEWS 2/19), iHEARTMEDIA divestiture trust BRUNSWICK STATION TRUST LLC sold Classic Hits WMOG (BIG 92.7)/ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA to GOLDEN ISLES BROADCASTING, LLC for $225,000.
APD/Promotions Director BILL YOUNG tells ALL ACCESS, "On JUNE 1st at midnight, WMOG was rescued from satellite oblivion when GOLDEN ISLES BROADCASTING, owners of Country WRJY (104.1 THE WAVE) and AC WXMK (MAGIC 105.9, completed its acquisition of the station. The station immediately went into its temporary format, playing 300 song hooks an hour and promising an announcement at 5:10p on JUNE 2nd. A meme-driven social media campaign kicked in as well. At precisely 5:10p, the station was relaunched with new call letters (WSSI) and a locally-programmed Classic Hits format as 'The Golden Isles Greatest Hits, 92.7 SSI.' The station began its launch with a promise to play 10,000 songs in a row with no commercials. GM BRYAN STEELE was unable to comment, being in a state of apoplexy with no commercial inventory for the foreseeable future."
