CUMULUS Country WKKO (K100 COUNTRY)/TOLEDO morning host HARVEY STEELE of the "SHORES & STEELE" show recently won the 2016 NATIONAL DONOR MEMORIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE awarded by the UNITED NETWORK FOR ORGAN SHARING. STEELE was nominated by his daughter, KARA STEELE, for the award, which recognizes exceptional advocates for organ and tissue donation. "My dad received two life-saving liver transplants in NOVEMBER 1997," KARA told ALL ACCESS, "and he is the first organ recipient to win this prestigious award."
HARVEY has volunteered for LIFE CONNECTION OF OHIO, a non-profit that promotes and facilitates organ donation in NORTHWEST and WEST CENTRAL OHIO, since his own transplant in 1997. His involvement has ranged from media interviews and hospital outreach to awareness events and speaking engagements. He also uses his platform on "SHORES & STEELE" to spread the word about the importance of organ and tissue donation. HARVEY's journey inspired KARA to work at LIFE CONNECTION OF OHIO, as well, where she current serves as Dir./Community Services. HARVEY accepted his award at a reception during the UNITED NETWORK FOR ORGAN SHARING Board of Directors meeting in RICHMOND, VA earlier this MONTH.
