Drake's Five Awards Dominate 2016 iHeartRadio Much Music Awards

DRAKE was the big winner at last night's 2016 iHEARTRADIO MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS in TORONTO, hosted by GIGI HADAD. The "Views" chart-topper took home five awards, including Video Of The Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Most Buzzworthy Canadian, Best Director ("Hotline Bling", DIRECTOR X), and, along with MAJID JORDAN, Best MuchFACT Video for their hit single "My Love," which features the CANADIAN rapper.
Hometown star ALESSIA CARA, who made her debut on the iHEARTRADIO MMVA stage, took home her first iHEARTRADIO MMVA for Best New Canadian Artist, while NICK JONAS scooped up the award for International Artist of the Year before performing on the sidewalk. FIFTH HARMONY and SHAWN MENDES each took home two awards, with the former winning Most Buzzworthy International Artist or Group and Fan Fave International Artist or Group, and the latter awarded Best Pop Video and Fan Fave Video for "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a collaboration with FIFTH HARMONY member CAMILA CABELLO.
Hip hop duo MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS opened the show with their viral single, "Dance Off," featuring a live competition between presenters AMBER ROSE and LILLY SINGH. Later in the show, CANADIAN rockers HEDLEY let the audience join in and sing during their performance of "Lose Control," before iHEARTRADIO MMVA winner MENDES sang his new single, "Treat You Better," in its broadcast debut.
Singer-songwriter JAMES BAY performed "Let it Go"; hip-hop artist DESIIGNER had fans screaming for his breakout hit "Panda"; indie pop duo TEGAN AND SARA performed their single "Boyfriend"; JUNO AWARD-winning indie-rock band JULY TALK broke out "Push + Pull"; pop singer HAILEE STEINFELD with B.C. hitmaker SHAWN HOOK sang a medley of their singles "Rock Bottom" and "Sound of Your Heart"; and pop group FIFTH HARMONY closed the show with "Work from Home".
Presenters included ALX VELIZ, HAILEY BALDWIN, JUS REIGN, MARIANAS TRENCH, ROBBIE AMELL, RUTH B, SCOTT HELMAN, SHEMAR MOORE, SOFIA CARSON, SONREAL, TYLER POSEY and "Pretty Little Liars" stars ASHLEY BENSON, LUCY HALE and SHAY MITCHELL.
On TWITTER alone, there were more than 370,000 tweets posted today using #MMVAs, with iHEARTRADIO MMVA related hashtags holding six of the Top 10 trending topics, with #MMVAs trending internationally.
The two-hour music extravaganza, which aired live on MUCH, VRAK, CTV, and internationally on Much.com, encores TONIGHT, at 7p (ET) on MUCH, and is available on demand now at Much.com.
