Pierre Lalonde, Singer And TV Host, Dies At 75

PIERRE LALONDE, the singer and TV host who became a fixture in QUEBEC's French-language television and also hosted and sang in English under the name PETER MARTIN, died TODAY (6/22) at his home in the OUTREMONT area of MONTREAL at 75.  He had been battling Parkinson's disease for several years.

LALONDE, son of singer JEAN LALONDE (a/k/a JACK FORBES) began his career at the age of four on CKAC-A/MONTREAL; he later was a child actor on radio and, after attending school in the U.S., returned to work in radio at CKJL-A/SAINT-JEROME, QC (owned by his father) and at CJMS-A/MONTREAL. He joined the then-new CFTM-TV/MONTREAL in 1961, hosting several shows, and began recording in 1963.

In 1967, he hosted "THE PETER MARTIN SHOW," a variety show that replaced "CLAY COLE'S DISCOTEK" on WPIX (TV)/NEW YORK in 1967.  Later, he hosted shows in English on CTV and local affiliate CFCF-TV/MONTREAL and in French on TQS and RADIO-CANADA.
