Sens. ED MARKEY (D-MA) and RICHARD BLUMENTHAL (D-CT) are urging the FCC to look at threats to privacy and security presented by connected car technology.
MEDIAPOST reports that the senators sent a letter to the FCC pointing out that vehicle-to-vehicle communications are particularly vulnerable to hacking and safety and privacy threats, and warning that companies could use driving data gleaned from a car's location for ad targeting and other uses without the driver's knowledge or consent (the subject of a bill the senators proposed last year). The lawmakers also warned that hackers could gain control of a car's operation.
