The balance of power in terms of the record business continues to shift westward with the recent news of L.A. REID's EPIC RECORDS headed to offices on SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT's CULVER CITY lot with COLUMBIA and RCA RECORDS as well as SONY/ATV MUSIC PUBLISHING. Construction, now underway, is expected to finish at the close of the year. SONY MUSIC is currently based at CAA's old headquarters on WILSHIRE BLVD, and first announced last year its operations would relocate to CULVER CITY. The move follows both LUCIAN GRAINGE's relocation of UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP and STEVE BARNETT's moving CAPITOL RECORDS into the iconic TOWER buildling on VINE in 2012.
That news follows reports of WARNER BROS. RECORDS moving from its own landmark "ski lodge" building in BURBANK to a new space in a converted FORD manufacturing plant at 7th and SANTA FE in downtown L.A.'s new ARTS DISTRICT when its lease expires in 2017. RHINO, ELEKTRA and ATLANTIC, now located across the VENTURAL FREEWAY on OLIVE, are expected to join their WARNER BROS. colleagues in the new location, which attracted attention when BUZZFEED was reportedly kicking the tires about moving in.
