AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA is releasing a new APM REPORTS podcast series focusing on the mishandling of a highly-publicized child abduction case 27 years ago. "IN THE DARK," an examination led by reporter MADELINE BARAN of how the investigation by law enforcement of the disappearance of JACOB WETTERLING in rural MINNESOTA was botched, launches SEPTEMBER 13th. The case led to the federal law requiring states to maintain registries of sex offenders, but the child was never found.
“While this case has been covered locally and nationally, no one has really gone in depth about the investigation itself,” said APM REPORTS Editor-in-Chief CHRIS WORTHINGTON. “We wanted to examine what went wrong and why this case has not been solved. And most importantly, why JACOB WETTERLING hasn’t been found.”
