Longtime VIRGINIA radio vet BILL “COACH BILL” PHIPPS passed away this morning after a long fight with cancer. COACH BILL became a household name to listeners of SAGA COMMUNICATIONS/HARRISONBURG, VA stations WSVA-A, WQPO and WSIG, as well as several other stations in the area.
PHIPPS moved to HARRISONBURG in the early '90s and worked in several roles over the years from sports reporter and play-by-play announcer to DJ and morning show host. He also helped to program stations and choose the music they played.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife PAULA and his family who stayed strong and brave during his long battle with health issues," WSVA/HARRISONBURG, VA Operations/Brand Manager FRANK WILT said.
