WSTP/Salisbury, NC Goes Dark

CATAWBA COLLEGE FOUNDATION/2B PRODUCTIONS Country WSTP-A (1490 CAROLINA COUNTRY)/SALISBURY, NC has signed off the air. The station went dark at midnight TUESDAY night-WEDNESDAY morning after 77 years on the air.

In a release from the station, GM BUDDY POOLE noted that the station, acquired by the school in AUGUST 2014, cannot increase its coverage area and "we are just tired of pouring money into a dark hole." POOLE and BILL GRAHAM have spearheaded the college's move into acquiring AM stations in the region and flipped WSAT from News-Talk to Country in APRIL 2015 after a month of silence; sister Oldies simulcast MEMORIES 1280 -- WSAT-A/SALISBURY-WTIX-A/CONCORD-CHARLOTTE -- remains on the air.
