BRAD EVANS, WES GRIFFIN, and ROB EVANS' CREEK MEDIA recently took over WNEX-F/MACON, GA and flipped the Oldies station to Americana as "THE CREEK 100.9 FM" and also took over News-Talk WNEX-A and News-Talk WPGA-A (NET NEWS 6/16), but the station's former owner, REGISTER COMMUNICATIONS' LOWELL REGISTER, is challenging the sale by a receiver, GAURAV MALHOTRA, and the MACON TELEGRAPH reports that the new owners have gone to court to stop him from allegedly "saying he’s taking control of the station, unplugging equipment and otherwise harassing employees." CREEK obtained a temporary protective order MONDAY.
In the county court case, CREEK MEDIA claims that REGISTER walked into the station on AUGUST 19th and declared that he was taking control of his former stations; REGISTER told the court TUESDAY (9/14) that the receiver and the company managing the assets, GREEN BULL GEORGIA PARTNERS LLC, did not have the authority to sell the stations, and denies the allegations that he told staffers he was taking control or unplugged equipment, calling the claims "an absolute lie."
CREEK's allegations include the claim that someone contacted the company on SEPTEMBER 6th on REGISTER's behalf, trying to arrange the move of all the station's radio equipment to REGISTER's property, and that REGISTER, having allegedly unplugged Internet cables, had also withheld mail and checks, leading to an unpaid power bill at the radio towers, which REGISTER denies.
