TRIBUNE MEDIA News-Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO overnight host PATTI VASQUEZ got on the wrong side of CHICAGO Mayor RAHM EMANUEL with a bit that had the host calling EMANUEL in the middle of the night, and ROBERTFEDER.COM notes that the call was missing a key element of radio prank calls: VASQUEZ didn't inform EMANUEL he was on the air before airing the Mayor's drowsy conversation.
The brief bit on SEPTEMBER 2nd's show, in which VASQUEZ seemed surprised that EMANUEL answered his phone and EMANUEL blew the call off and went back to bed, was deleted from the WGN website and FEDER reports that VASQUEZ and her producer were suspended for one night after the Mayor's staff complained to station management.
VP/Content and Programming TODD MANLEY told FEDER, "It was an action everyone involved regrets, and we have apologized to the Mayor. This unfortunate incident doesn’t reflect the kind of show PATTI has worked so hard to build."
