The NATIONAL MUSIC PUBLISHERS' ASSOCIATION (NMPA) named its top songwriters for AUGUST and revealed 227 certifications of hit songs for the month as part of its GOLD and PLATINUM program honoring RIAA-certified hits. In partnership with the RIAA’s GOLD And PLATINUM program, NMPA finds and certifies the songwriters of RIAA-certified singles. RIAA counts both sales and on-demand streams towards its Gold (500k), Platinum (1m) and multi-Platinum (2m+) thresholds. Thousands of songwriters have been recognized since NMPA’s program began in 2007.
MCA NASHVILLE artist SAM HUNT was named NMPA's top songwriter, earning seven RIAA certifications. "House Party," "Take Your Time," "Leave The Night On," and "Break Up In A Small Town" were all certified MULTI-PLATINUM; "Make You Miss Me" was certified PLATINUM and GOLD; and "Ex to See," was certified GOLD.
The second top songwriter with four certifications is HALSEY, with "New Americana" certified Platinum, and "Colors," "Gasoline" and "Hold Me Down," all certified Gold.
SONY/ATV topped all music publishers with 56 certifications (12 multi-Platinum, 15 Platinum and 20 Gold), followed by UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING GROUP with 53 (21 multi-Platinum, 11 Platinum, 21 Gold) and WARNER/CHAPPELL with 41 (11 multi-Platinum, 11 Platinum, 19 Gold).
Leading the indie field was KOBALT MUSIC with 14 certifications (six multi-Platinum, five Platinum, three Gold) and SONGS MUSIC PUBLISHING with 13 (three multi-Platinum, five Platinum, five Gold).
