Country radio’s overall Average Quarter Hour (AQH) shares in PPM-measured markets were down again on a year-to-year basis in the just-released SEPTEMBER monthly report, among persons 6+, 18-34, and 25-54. The only month or demo this year which has shown any year-to-year gains was MARCH, when 18-34 overall AQH shares improved 8.4-8.6 compared to 2015.
Country once again ranked as the #4 radio format overall among persons 6+, with its 7.5% trailing AC (7.6), Top 40 (8.2) and News/Talk (9.3). But Country remained a strong #2 behind Top 40 with 18-34s and 25-54s, posting 8.4% and 7.5%, respectively.
While Country has maintained a steady 8.6% average through SEPTEMBER of 2016, it’s definitely off from the same time period in 2015, when the format averaged 9.1% AQH share for the first nine months. Similarly, among 25-54s, Country has decreased for the first nine months of 2016, averaging 7.3%, compared to 7.8% through SEPTEMBER of 2015. See the graph on the NIELSEN website here.
