Condolences to family and friends of PETER ALLEN, the radio voice of the METROPOLITAN OPERA for 29 seasons, who passed away SATURDAY (10/8) at 96, according to the NEW YORK TIMES.
ALLEN joined WQXR-A-F/NEW YORK in 1947 and became MILTON CROSS' standby for MET broadcasts in the 1973-74 season, taking over as host when CROSS passed away on JANUARY 3, 1975. He added announcer duties for PBS' "LIVE FROM THE MET" telecasts in 1977, and retired in 2004.
