iHEARTRADIO News-Talk WHO-A/DES MOINES afternoon host SIMON CONWAY's third annual free sandwich giveaway to benefit the PUPPY JAKE FOUNDATION raised a record $22,000 FRIDAY (10/7), a huge jump from 2015's $6,000 and 2014's $4,000. CONWAY adopted the veterans' service dog charity in 2014 and raises money by holding a barbecue in the WHO parking lot with meat donated by a local supermarket.
CONWAY said, “I was speechless for about two seconds! People drove long distances, handed over huge sums of money and donated enough to acquire, train for two years and ultimately hand over for free a service dog for a wounded Veteran."
The event drew a large crowd and, also, several dogs, including the original Puppy Jake and CONWAY's own Chocolate Lab, Reagan.
The charity has given 11 trained dogs to veterans this year alone; nine more dogs are set to graduate in MARCH 2017. Find out more here.
