SETON HALL UNIVERSITY Rock WSOU (PIRATE RADIO)/SOUTH ORANGE, NJ, is celebrating three decades of its Metal format with a specially designed "WSOU 30 Years Of Metal" donut in the colors of red and black with cream cheese icing, chocolate icing and powdered sugar, unveiled this morning at the neighborhood PURPLE GLAZE DONUT shop in downtown ASBURY PARK, NJ.
WSOU flipped to its Metal format in the fall of 1986, so creating a WSOU donut was a natural for baker and owner WESLEY SHARPE, a long-time fan of heavy metal music. Every MONDAY morning, PURPLE GLAZE reveals a hand-crafted special donut inspired by the heavy metal scene. Past creations have included “The Shortest Strawberry” (METALLICA), “Cannoli Diver” (DIO), “REESE'S PIECES Sells...But Who's Buying?” (MEGADETH), and “Fury Whipped” (HIGH ON FIRE).
WSOU Promotions Director MEGAN STOLARZ, who was able to witness the donuts being made, commented: “It is a real honor to have been chosen as one of PURPLE GLAZE’s metal donuts. For thirty years, WSOU has played an important role in promoting metal music. It is always a thrill for us when our listeners show their appreciation for what we do, especially when it’s so delicious!”
