ALL ACCESS sends a digital standing ovation out to COUNTRY RADIO BROADCASTERS (CRB) Lifelong Director Emeritus, SIRIUSXM personality, and honorary "Mayor of MUSIC ROW," CHARLIE MONK, who celebrates 60 years in the industry this YEAR. "When I started out in 1956, I wanted to be a radio or TV star, or maybe an actor," said MONK. "I found out when I moved to MUSIC CITY that I was a lot better at nurturing other talented people, which got me into the management, publishing, and production side of music. I'm proud that I have made a good living for my family, had a lot of fun hanging with super talented folks, and doing a lot of different things in the entertainment world."
MONK began his career in radio in 1965 at WGEA/GENEVA, AL where he held the esteemed position of floor sweeper. It wasn't long, however, until MONK was on the air and headed toward his first management position. He made the move to NASHVILLE in 1968 and joined the staff at ASCAP in 1970, beginning his career in publishing. MONK is a founding member of the COUNTRY RADIO SEMINAR, an alumnus of LEADERSHIP MUSIC; a member of both the CMA and ACM; a member of the GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION; and has held VP positions at the NATIONAL ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS AND SCIENCES, NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL, and GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION. He has also served as local President for the AMERICAN FEDERATIONG OF TELEVISION AND RADIO ARTS (AFTRA-SAG) and is a 2014 inductee to the ALABAMA MUSIC HALL OF FAME. He is currently nominated for induction into the TENNESSEE RADIO HALL OF FAME (NET NEWS 10/5). Send The Mayor your kudos and congrats here.
