FCC Tally Of Broadcast Station Totals For September: More FMs, More Translators, Five Less AMs

The FCC has released its quarterly accounting of broadcast station totals, this time as of SEPTEMBER 30th, showing that the number of AM stations fell by five since JUNE 30th to 4,671 but FM commercial stations gaining 23 to 6,737 and noncommercial FMs up one to 4,100.
The biggest gains were among Low-Power FMs, up 44 to 1,609, and FM translators and boosters, increasing 146 to 6,962.
Total broadcast stations, including radio and television, rose 226 to 32,042.
