Embattled TRIBUNE CO. reported third-quarter operating revenue fell 3% to $1.35 billion and operating profit slid 17%, but net income benefitted from a one-time after-tax gain from the unwinding of partnershps with the CHANDLER family to rise from $24 million to $164.3 million (7 to 65 cents/share).
Without the one-time gain, earnings were 43 cents/share, which missed analysts' projections by 2 cents. The company does not break out results from its only radio property, Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO; Broadcasting/Entertainment division revenues, which include WGN as well as TV, other properties and the CHICAGO CUBS, saw revenue fall 3% to $393 million.
