On the game's 30th anniversary, iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK, the flagship of NEW YORK METS baseball, will air the play-by-play of Game 7 of the 1986 WORLD SERIES in its entirety on THURSDAY (10/27).
The broadcast of GARY THORNE and the late BOB MURPHY's call of the METS' victory, which came after a rainout following the Game 6 comeback victory capped by the infamous BILL BUCKNER error, will be preceded by an hour-long pre-game show at 6p (ET) hosted by PETE MCCARTHY, joined by current METS radio broadcasters HOWIE ROSE, JOSH LEWIN, and WAYNE RANDAZZO. The show will also include interviews with THORNE and some of the '86 METS, including RAY KNIGHT, KEITH HERNANDEZ, and JESSE OROSCO. ROSE will also offer a special introduction to the play-by-play tape.
"The METS' dramatic victory in game six of the 1986 WORLD SERIES forced a seventh and final game originally scheduled for the following night. Rain, however postponed that game for 24 hours,” said ROSE. One full extra day of frazzled nerves meant roughly forty eight hours to contemplate how a season of utter dominance would ultimately be remembered. Allow BOB MURPHY and GARY THORNE to demonstrate how thirty years after the fact, it's possible to summon those same anxious feelings which culminated in the happiest recap imaginable."
