BOBBY "BORIS" PICKETT's classic "The Monster Mash" is the year's most seasonal song on SPOTIFY, registering the largest spike of any song on the service every HALLOWEEN.
SPOTIFY contains no fewer than 326 recordings of “The Monster Mash” (by everyone from the BEACH BOYS to MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER) but PICKETT's original, first released in AUGUST, 1962, remains the streamer's "most seasonal song." in terms of spikes.
No other season comes close to this kind of song spike. CHRISTMAS music listening ramps up slowly, and U2’s “New Year’s Day,” spikes every JANUARY 1st, but also receives plays year-round. ARLO GUTHRIE's “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre” spikes every THANKSGIVING (the day when ARLO received his famed littering citation), but none of these moments compare to the HALLOWEEN dominance of "The Monster Mash."
Last HALLOWEEN, the world streamed 43,253 hours of “The Monster Mash” on SPOTIFY. Of those, 18-24 and 25-29 are the strongest age groups for "The Mash," but its listeners are spread out fairly evenly across the age groupsAlthough CANADA has the most "Mash" listeners per capita (followed by the U.S.), the U.S. has the top four Mashiest cities, with BROOKLYN coming out on top followed by SAN FRANCISCO, SAN DIEGO and CHARLOTTE, NC.
