There will be no fourth trial for JOHN A. "JUNIOR" GOTTI, the GAMBINO family scion whose three previous trials related to the shooting of WABC Talk WABC-A/NEW YORK host CURTIS SLIWA in 1992 ended in hung juries.
U.S. attorney MICHAEL J. GARCIA issued a statement FRIDAY (10/20) saying, "The government has concluded that a retrial of defendant JOHN A. GOTTI on the pending indictment is not in the interests of justice in light of the three prior hung juries in the case. Accordingly, we submitted a proposed order which the court has signed and which ends this prosecution." GOTTI had been charged with ordering the abduction of SLIWA after the host, the founder of the GUARDIAN ANGELS, criticized GOTTI's father, legendary crime boss JOHN J. GOTTI.
In a statement released through WABC, SLIWA responded to the end of the prosecution by saying he would sue GOTTI for "not only the bullets that he ordered put into my body, but for the fear and abuse he has heaped on our law-abiding society over the past 20 years."
