Nielsen Shows News-Talk, Sports Formats Performing Strong In October

A NIELSEN report shows that the election and the confluence of the baseball postseason and football regular season are once again boosting listenership for News-Talk and Sports formats this FALL.
OCTOBER's PPM figures show a 9.9% share of the 6+ audience for News-Talk, up from 9.1% last year and 8.9% this past JUNE. The format also had its highest 25-54 share this month, 7.3%, in over three years. And the format's share of the 18-34 demographic is larger than for the last presidential election in 2012.
Meanwhile, Sports is also in an annual upswing, continuing a record-setting past that peaked last year with the format's highest PPM shares. OCTOBER and NOVEMBER are the format's peak months, followed by the NFL-postseason-boosted JANUARY and FEBRUARY phases.
