UMG NASHVILLE Chairman/CEO MIKE DUNGAN is featured in TODAY’s (11/1) TENNESSEAN, a piece that lauds his leadership skills, ear for music, business savvy and, as an added bonus, his reputation for being one of the nice guys. “If he wanted to run for local office, he’d be elected tomorrow morning, because he has that personality,” said legendary MUSIC ROW executive JOE GALANTE.
DUNGAN has done it all it the music biz, and from the ground up, too, starting as a record store clerk in CINCINNATI, working Rock records for RCA back in the day, then heading up marketing divisions for ARISTA in both ATLANTA and NASHVILLE. He eventually rose to President at CAPITOL NASHVILLE; following the 2012 merger between EMI and UMG, DUNGAN was named Chairman/CEO for UMG NASHVILLE (NET NEWS 2/29/2012).
Since then, he has guided the label group to unprecedented success, evidenced by three of TOMORROW’s five CMA Entertainer of the Year nominees being part of the UMG NASHVILLE artist rosters (LUKE BRYAN, CHRIS STAPLETON, KEITH URBAN). “I think what MIKE DUNGAN has been able to do for years is never feel like that powerful record label guy that he truly is,” said BRYAN in the piece. “He’s done such an amazing job in never putting off that type of deal. From the time he signs you, he kills himself to make you what you always dreamed to be." DUNGAN is quoted as saying: “To me, that just comes down to being a decent human being.” Read the entire article here.
