BIG DEAL MUSIC has signed a publishing agreement Big Deal Music is pleased to announce the signing of a publishing agreement with RUSSIAN provocateurs PUSSY RIOT founder NADYA TOLOKONNIKOVA, just days after the release of the band's debut EP, "xxx," accompanied by a series of music videos.
Commented BIG DEAL's DAVE AYERS: “NADYA is one of a kind. Uncommonly tireless as activist, artist, and provocateur, while somehow managing to keep her sense of humor intact. We’re excited to have this opportunity to support her on a very unique adventure, ready to be amazed, and certainly surprised.”
Added NADYA: "I feel blessed. And extremely lucky that I met BIG DEAL on my way. As a person who doesn't trust corporate/official relationships, I’m happy to be working with a crew of intelligent people who do believe that Art is the ultimate goal, our goddess, and inspiration."
PUSSY RIOT began staging provocative guerrilla performances in public locations in MOSCOW in 2011, promoting gender equality, LGBT rights, and its opposition to RUSSIAN President VLADIMIR PUTIN. In 2012, NADYA, along with two others, was tried and convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” following a performance in the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. She served most of a two-year sentence of hard labor in a SIBERIAN prison, was subsequently recognized by AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, and received the LENNONONO GRANT FOR PEACE in 2012.
Last week’s release of "Make America Great Again" (produced by RICKY REED), "Organs," and "Straight Outta Vagina" (both produced by TV ON THE RADIO's DAVE SITEK), saw a new global light shed on the project. Amid the wide array of media coverage, NADYA spoke with PITCHFORK and NPR's Morning Edition.
BIG DEAL's roster includes MY MORNING JACKET, RAY LaMONTAGNE, ST. VINCENT, THE AFGHAN WHIGS, DAN WILSON, NICK LOWE, SLEATER-KINNEY, BEACH HOUSE, KAMASI WASHINGTON and SHARON VAN ETTEN, among others.
