The DOWNLOAD ON PODCASTING, a project of DMR/INTERACTIVE and TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, has released a pair of reports on the history and monetization of podcasting. "LISTEN UP! A BRIEF HISTORY OF PODCASTS" and "MONETIZATION - A RACE TO $100,000,000" feature information gathered from interviews with people like NIELSEN's ROB KASS, PODCASTONE's NORM PATTIZ, AMPLIFI MEDIA's STEVE GOLDSTEIN, and HAMMOCK, INC. founder REX HAMMOCK and are available now at downloadonpodcasting.com/insights.
“A decade after APPLE added podcasts to iTUNES (JULY 2005) the release of APPLE CarPlay and Android Auto along with the upcoming independent measurement by NIELSEN should help propel the industry towards $100,000,000 in annual ad revenue in the years to come,” said DOWNLOAD ON PODCASTING researcher EVA VIGH.
DOWNLOAD ON PODCASTING's BEN HAASE added, “As we looked across the podcasting landscape, it was immediately clear that monetization was a paramount issue. While there are multiple ways for podcasts to generate revenue, advertising has the best opportunity to rapidly grow and help mature this market.”
And DMR/INTERACTIVE Pres./COO ANDREW CURRAN said, “To evaluate podcasting solely on current ad revenue would risk overlooking the changes in listening that are taking place on mobile devices. The growth of on-demand audio provides an increasingly vibrant compliment to live radio listening.”
