The BROADCASTERS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA will present MEREDITH CORP. Local Media Group Pres. PAUL KARPOWICZ with its 2017 GOLDEN MIKE AWARD on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27th, at the PLAZA HOTEL in NEW YORK CITY. The annual black-tie gala is a major fundraiser for the charity’s mission of providing aid to broadcasters in need.
Commented KARPOWICZ: “I am grateful to the BROADCASTERS FOUNDATION for this honor, and I thank the Board for their deep commitment to colleagues in need. The pleas for aid come in every day. It is with the generous support of broadcasters across the country that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who find themselves in devastating circumstances.”
Added BFA Chairman DAN MASON: “PAUL is an industry leader who has given back to the broadcast community through his dedication and service. A tireless champion of the BROADCASTERS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA, his contributions have advanced our goal of providing important aid to our colleagues. We are proud to recognize him.”
Under KARPOWICZ’s leadership since 2005, MEREDITH’s Local Media Group has significantly increased its television footprint to 17 owned or operated television stations reaching more than 11% of U.S. households. Prior to MEREDITH, KARPOWICZ spent more than 20 years at LIN. During his tenure, he presided over significant growth in LIN’s broadcasting business, nearly doubling it in size from 12 to 23 stations.
An inductee of the BROADCASTING & CABLE HALL OF FAME, KARPOWICZ serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMI and as a board member of BFA and the TELEVISION BOARD of the NAB, for which he is also a former Chairman. He has been Chairman of the CBS Affiliates Board and the TELEVISION BUREAU OF ADVERTISING board and has served on the executive committees of the NAB and the RHODE ISLAND and INDIANA BROADCASTING ASSOCIATIONS.
