DICK OLIVER, a longtime NEW YORK DAILY NEWS editor who became a familiar voice on radio and an Emmy-winning reporter on television, died FRIDAY (11/11) at 77, the paper is reporting.
OLIVER joined the DAILY NEWS in 1961 as a copyboy, moving to UPI before returning to the tabloid as a reporter in 1969. He held various editorial positions before becoming managing editor, and hosted the newspaper's radio show "BULLDOG EDITION" on BUCKLEY News-Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK in 1979-95. In 1988, OLIVER added reporting and fill-in anchoring duties on FOX O&O WNYW-TV (FOX 5)'s "GOOD DAY NEW YORK"; he retired in 2002.
