TEXAS EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY BROADCASTING noncommercial Variety KOOP/AUSTIN has named former AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY National Cancer Information Center Senior Director of Mission Delivery BEVERLY SHAW as Executive Director. SHAW, also for 26 years producer and host of crosstown AUSTIN COMMUNITY RADIO noncommercial Urban KAZI's "CONSCIOUS PARTY," fills the role left vacant with KIM MCCARSON exited earlier this year to join the City of AUSTIN's Economic Development Department’s Music and Entertainment Division as Economic and Business Development Liaison.
KOOP Board spokesperson ANDREW DICKENS said, “After conducting a thorough national search, we are thrilled to announce that a longtime Austinite and community radio rock star is the best qualified candidate to lead KOOP to the next level. BEVERLY SHAW has the whole package, extensive business skills as well as a deep understanding of AUSTIN’s unique grassroots creative culture.”
SHAW said, “This new role requires a unique blend of business skills aligned with the knowledge of artistic presentation. Balancing business with art is the key to success and appeals to Austin’s intellectually creative market. My background working with cancer patients helps me understand the psycho-social needs of the community and how important music is to the physical and mental healing aspects of the human soul. KOOP Radio is not only for people who want entertainment - it is also for those who utilize the healing powers of music and public affairs to put life in perspective.”
