TV ON THE RADIO will headline GOLDENVOICE's "We Rock With STANDING ROCK," a benefit concert in support of the STANDING ROCK RESERVATION water protectors of NORTH DAKOTA, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18th. at 7p (PT) at the FONDA THEATRE in LOS ANGELES
The concert, which will feature 17 other confirmed artists, including FIONA APPLE, DEVENDRA BANHART, PATRICIA ARQUETTE and RILEY KEOUGH. will support the STANDING ROCK community, which recently celebrated a victory from the DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE project (#NoDAPL), but will need continued support.
"We Rock For STANDING ROCK" is being organized by TV ON THE RADIO's KYP MALONE, who issued the following statement about the benefit:
"I greet the news of the OBAMA administration’s denial of DAPL with a glad and cautious optimism. It's a win, and a truly encouraging example of the power of people getting together. But my feelings are tempered by the fact that there is still so much work to do.
"ENERGY TRANSFER PARTNERS and SUNOCO issued this declaration late last night: 'As stated all along, ETP and SXL are fully committed to ensuring that this vital project is brought to completion and fully expect to complete construction of the pipeline without any additional rerouting in and around LAKE OAHE. Nothing this Administration has done today changes that in any way.' In other words, they will fight this. They got tricks. This nation's next president is an investor with a vocal record of climate change denial and racism toward FIRST NATIONS peoples.
"If this win were to stick, it still would be a first step. There are 500 legal charges still pending toward the water protectors. This means they will need continued support. Even without the threat of an oil pipeline poisoning the water, life on reservations are so often ones of deprivation, unconscionably low life expectancy, infant mortality, and adolescent suicide all pointing to the continued need for us to stand in support of FIRST NATIONS people. We need to keep the light shining on this."
Tickets go on sale FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9th at 10a (PT) and can be purchased at axs.com. Tickets are $25 for GA floor and $35 for reserved balcony.
All of the proceeds from the concert will benefit THE OFFICIAL OCETI SAKOWIN CAMP (SEVEN COUNCIL FIRES) FUND, NATIVE CHILDREN'S SURVIVAL, THE SEEDING SOVEREIGNTY PROJECT and GIVELOVE.
The full lineup also includes NATIVE ROCK recording artist ROBBY ROMERO, SKY FERREIRA, KIMTYA DAWSON, BENJAMIN BOOKER, MOSES SUMNEY, VALERIE JUNE, NAHKO, HOLLY MIRANDA, MYNABIRDS' LAURA BURHENN, BECKY STARK, CHAPIN SISTES, JOLIE HOLLAND, BOUQUET and special guests.
