'CMA Country Christmas' Spurred Sales, Streaming Numbers

According to a COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) analysis of BUZZANGLE music data, the “CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS” special, which aired on ABC-TV last month, triggered a 363% gain in song sales during the analysis period for the songs performed in the taping. Additional data revealed a 14% gain in album sales containing CHRISTMAS songs performed on the show. Streaming traffic for songs performed during the telecast showed a 129% increase.
Songs that saw the biggest increase in streaming activity following the special included “Little Drummer Boy” by host JENNIFER NETTLES and IDINA MENZEL; “CHRISTMAS Makes Me Cry” by KACEY MUSGRAVES; “The First Noel” by CHRIS YOUNG; “Country CHRISTMAS” by LORETTA LYNN; and “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by BRETT ELDREDGE.
An encore of “CMA Country CHRISTMAS” will air SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24th at 9p (ET) on ABC. The program’s first airing on NOVEMBER 28th grew ratings year-to-year in total viewers, increasing 34% from 2015 (5.8 million to 7.8 million). Adults 18-49 also showed a yearly increase, growing 44%.
