Longtime U.K. radio personality and entrepreneur STEVE PENK has a streaming online radio station that plays nothing but music by dead artists, "RADIO DEAD," and he's ready to bring the concept to the U.S. both as a two-hour weekly show and a 24/7 format.
"RADIO DEAD" launched in MARCH as a streaming station and app and via TUNEIN in the U.K., and PENK tells ALL ACCESS that the format has gotten "hugely positive" response from listeners and the radio industry. PENK, the former CAPITAL FM and VIRGIN RADIO host and AC 96.2 THE REVOLUTION/OLDHAM owner known for his prank calls, says that during 2016, as legendary artists like PRINCE passed away, fans inundated him with thousands of messages noting that the departed singer's music could now be added to the RADIO DEAD playlist, which currently features an eclectic array of artists from ELVIS PRESLEY to MICHAEL JACKSON, WHITNEY HOUSTON, and DAVID BOWIE.
