Condolences to the family and friends of WILLIAM C. "BILL" FLORIAN, who founded Classical WNIB/CHICAGO 1955.
THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE notes FLORIAN started the station, "with $8,000, a rented truck and a studio next to an elevator shaft atop a West Side hotel. Over the next four-plus decades, the mom-and-pop station -- a rare independently owned major FM signal -- became a staple for CHICAGO's classical music listeners. FLORIAN was a constant at the station until he and his wife sold it to BONNEVILLE INTERNATIONAL CORP. in 2001 for $165 million."
FLORIAN was 84 when he died DEC. 7th of cardiac arrest following a bout with lung cancer.
