Indie recording artist RAY BLK has been named the winner of the BBC MUSIC SOUND OF 2017 list of artists to watch in the coming year. To celebrate this accolade, RAY releases a new track "Patience (Freestyle)," which premiered last night across ZANE LOWE’s BEATS 1 show. Listen on SOUNDCLOUD here. Recorded in LOS ANGELES, the freestyle encompasses RAY’s unique flow, touching on her decision to remain completely Independent.
RAY BLK has been supported by BBC MUSIC since she dropped her breakthrough track "5050’ (A List 1xtra)".
"Winning the BBC SOUND OF 2017 has to be the most surprising thing that's happened to me thus far. I feel so honored to have topped the list this early in my career and join such an incredible alumni of winners," RAY BLK said. "Thank you so much to the BBC and all the voters! I'm particularly proud to be a part of this year’s list as its full of so much talent, some of whom are independent artists like myself which I really hope inspires the next generation of artists."
The BBC’s “SOUND OF…” poll is conducted by U.K. music critics and industry figures to determine the most promising new music talent in the industry. RAY BLK came out ahead of the likes of ANDERSON PAAK, DECLAN McKENNA and RAG'N'BONE MAN, among others. Past winners of the poll have included ADELE, SAM SMITH, HAIM, ELLIE GOULDING and JESSIE J. RAY BLK is the first unsigned artist to ever win the honor.
