AUSTRALIA's Communications Minister HELEN COONAN has asked the AUSTRALIAN COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA AUTHORITY to review the new media-ownership rules' local content requirements.
The new laws require local stations to produce 4 1/2 hours of local content a day, a requirement that some station owners say is too onerous and financially burdensome. COONAN has asked ACMA to report back with its findings by next JUNE.
