JOHN WILLIAMS will return to weekdays at TRIBUNE News-Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO on MARCH 13th, moving into the 1-3p (CT) slot while his SATURDAY show moves from 1-3p to 10a-noon on MARCH 18th; at the same time, the long-running KATHY O'MALLEY and JUDY MARKEY show, most recently on SATURDAYS 10a-noon, has been cancelled.
WILLIAMS' new weekday show takes the place of the second half of BILL LEFF and WENDY SNYDER's midday split-shift; LEFF and SNYDER continue with the 10a-noon half of their weekday show plus a "bonus hour" at noon on the streaming channel WGN PLUS, and the "WINTRUST WEEKDAY BUSINESS LUNCH WITH STEVE BERTRAND" continues for noon-1p. Besides the cancellation of KATHY AND JUDY, WGN will add two new weekend shows, "THE INNOVATION HOUR" for 1p SATURDAYS and "ON THE ROAD WITH DANE NEAL" at 2p SATURDAYS.
WILLIAMS, who has been hosting afternoons at CBS RADIO News-Talk WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS while continuing his weekend show at WGN, will end his WCCO show with the return to WGN middays. He originally joined WGN in 1997 after four years at WCCO.
“When we learned there was an opportunity to bring JOHN back to CHICAGO full time we had to jump on it. There has never been a better time to have more of his inventive and intelligent talk on the station,” said VP of Programming TODD MANLEY. “We’re excited about the Saturday changes and want to express how incredibly grateful we are to KATHY AND JUDY for their contributions to the WGN family. We will look for every opportunity to continue their legacy.”
“I’m thrilled about my new adventure on WGN Radio,” said WILLIAMS. “Plus, if you do what I do, you want to do it on WGN. The team is now more creative, aggressive and forward-thinking than any station in AMERICA.”
