POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE RADIO Contemporary Christian WCQR/GREENEVILLE-MORRISTOWN-ROGERSVILLE/TN, has launched "The Pajama Project," to collect sleep clothes for children living in foster care, group homes and other tough situations.
“To celebrate WCQR's 20th year, we wanted to give back to the community and give our listeners opportunities to help their neighbors," WCQR GM ADAM McCAIN said. "For 2017, we will focus on one special project for the community each month throughout the year.”
WCQR originally set out to collect 1,200 sets of new pajamas; remarkably, the station has already collected more than 2,700 sets. Added PAR EVP BRIAN SANDERS: “We are proud of WCQR’s work to connect with the community it has served for two decades.”
PAR Pres. EDDIE BAKER said: “By providing children in need with new, warm pajamas, WCQR is sharing the love of CHRIST with these children and giving them some happiness at the same time.”
WCQR was able to collect pajamas through live remotes, church-sponsored pajama days, and support from businesses and organizations that volunteered to be drop off and collection locations.
Employees from other PAR stations -- including those in VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA and KENTUCKY -- participated in PAR’s first-ever ministry-wide Pajama Day in support of their sister station’s effort. PAR team members were given the opportunity to wear pajamas to work and encouraged to purchase new children’s pajamas to add to WCQR’s growing collection total.
The collected pajamas will be distributed to six different local children's ministries and organizations, including RISE UP, COALITION FOR KIDS, HOLSTON HOME FOR KIDS, MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL, OF ONE ACCORD MINISTRIES and HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY SERVICES.
