MIKE WALDEN, the longtime college sports broadcaster who called USC and then UCLA games for many years, died FEBRUARY 12th from complications of a stroke in TARZANA, CA at 89.
WALDEN called USC football and men's basketball in 1966-72 and then UCLA's games from 1973-1990. He also served as a sports anchor for KNX-A, KFI-A, and KTLA (TV)/LOS ANGELES and was known to a different audience as the announcer (playing himself) on SHOWTIME's "SUPER DAVE" show, doing play-by-play of the ill-fated stunts attempted by BOB EINSTEIN's daredevil character. He called LOS ANGELES DODGERS games in 1970 and ST. LOUIS CARDINALS games in 1972, and worked in SPRINGFIELD, IL, MILWAUKEE, and CHICAGO before arriving in LOS ANGELES.
