Condolences to family and friends of longtime TWIN CITIES sportscaster ROD SIMONS, who died TODAY (2/20) of an apparent heart attack while in FORT MYERS, FL covering the MINNESOTA TWINS' Spring Training camp. He was 56.
SIMONS was best known for television work, including sports anchor slots at KSTP-TV/ST. PAUL-MINNEAPOLIS, FOX SPORTS NET/NORTHWEST and DETROIT, KSTW-TV/SEATTLE, KOIN-TV/PORTLAND, KIVI-TV/BOISE, and KVEW-TV/RICHLAND-PASCO-KENNEWICK, WA, but he also anchored at Sports KJR-A and News-Talk KVI-A/SEATTLE.
He most recently provided reports and a SUNDAY morning baseball show for NORTHERN LIGHTS Alternative KQGO (formerly KTWN) (GO 96.3)/MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, the TWINS' co-owned flagship, through his RODMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS production company, and hosted "SPORTS FINAL" on TEGNA NBC affiliate KARE-TV and "GAME ON!" for FOX-owned MY NETWORK TV affiliate WFTC-TV (MY 29).
