Nielsen: News-Talk Has Big January In PPMs

NIELSEN AUDIO's JANUARY PPM blog post focuses on the performance of the News-Talk format, which is riding the volatile political wave of the last year to new records.

According to NIELSEN's PPM figures, the News-Talk format posted its best numbers since NOVEMBER 2012 -- also an election cycle -- in JANUARY of this year, with a 10.7 share of persons 6+, higher than any since NOVEMBER 2012's 11.1 share.  Among persons 18-34, JANUARY saw a new record of a 4.9 share, while in persons 25-54, the format did an 8.1 share, close to the peak of 8.4 in NOVEMBER 2012.

Year-to-year JANUARY figures over the past seven years show a big jump for News-Talk in the 18-34 category, with the numbers relatively flat at between 3.7 and 4.0 up until this JANUARY's 4.9.  That compares to a year-to-year dip for 18-34s in Top 40, Country, Hot AX, and Regional Mexican; Sports remained flat at 3.4, while Urban rose slightly from 65 to 6.7.
